The liveliness in the oat market last week has not been maintained, and it is apparent that the source of the lemand was restricted. It is stated the order was a thinshipment one for the East. At all events, whilst 3s Id f.o.b. South Island was temporarily operating to meet the enquiries, business cannot be done since at 3s. The price to farmers for A grade Gartons may be quoted as 2s 2d to 2s 4d country sta-C tions. W Wheat is commencing to come in from North Canterbury, and is going into millers’ hands. This wheat did not get the advantajf’ of the good rains early in January and is shrivelled to a large extent. There is some enquiry for perennial ryegrass, and up to 2s 7d each is offered for first-class farmers’ undressed. The average quotations are 2s 2d to 2s 5d for ordinary to good, but little is offering. Contradictory > reports continue to coxpe to hand regarding the potato blight in the Willowbridge and Waimate districts. One big grower states his crop in the Waimate district is seriously affected, and others with small arears in various parts of the contiguous districts report clean crops. The weather of the last few days has been more conducive to blight.
