THE RAETIHI FIXTURE. At the Raetihi Axeman’s Carnival, held recently, D. Pretty won the world’s championship, and C. Volzke the Axemen’s Cup Handicap. Results: Maiden Chop, 12in. Standing Block.— W. F. Zoks 1, T. Johnstone 2, P. T. Smith 3. A close finish. Time. 47secs.

World’s Championship Double Handed Sawing 2ft. Logs.—J. Neal and mate 1, T West and mate 2nd, Volzke Bros. 3. A very close finish, only a second between the placed men. Volzke Bros, had the misfortune to strike a very knotty log. Time 26 2-ssecs. Raetihi Axemen’s Cup Handicap Chop, 15in. Standing Block. —C. Volzke (16secs.) 1, A. Hitchens (23secs.) 2, J. Richardson (6secs.) 3. Won easily. Volzke chopped confidently from the start, giving a very fine exhibition of chopping. Time Imin. 7secs. World’s Single Handed Sawing Championship 2ft. Block. —S. Woodward 1, J. Neal 2, C. Volzke 3. This was another very close finish. Woodward, the champion, just caught the other two men in the last few strokes. Time Imin. 26secs. t World's Championship Chop, 2ft. Standing Block.—D. Pretty 1, J. Larkins 2, W. Pech 3. The old champion won after a great fight. Time Omin. ISsecs.

Single Handed Sawing Handicap, 15in. Block—A. Volzke (Ssecs.) 1, E. Torrey (ssecs.) 2. G. Jack (9sees.) 3. Won with a few seconds to spare. Time 26 l-ssecs. Consolation Chop, 12in. Block.—E. Parkes 1. J. Bird 2, T. West 3. No time taken.
The weather was fine but cold, and a large crowd witnessed the events, writes a Stratford correspondent, who attended the carnival.
