IMPERIAL AIR SERVICE.
DECISION RESTS WITH INDIA. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Jan. 24. The fate of the Imperial Air Service is in the balance. India’s eagerly awaited verdict will decide the issue. The Air Ministry states that it has not been advised of India’s decision. It is believed it has not yet been taken, but it is-understood that ( cables have passed between Mr. Hughes/and India in that connection, it is hoped with good effect.
The Air Ministry states that New Zealand and South Africa turned down the scheme owing to the state of their finances. It was know; that Mr. Massey was not enthusiastic at the time of the conference, but it was believed he would subsequently be converted. His decision 'is a great disappointment ’o local air circles, thouglv New Zealand’s inclusion is not essential to the inauguration of the service, and South Africa is only a branch line. If India joins, the Australian service will start. —United Service.
