DANNEVIRKE POLICE COURT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dannevirke, Jan. 27. A Justice of the Peace sentenced two young men named Basil Page Henify and Francis Edward Fly, who broke into a whai*' on an Oringi farm for -helter fcr a night and were arrested while pi-rtak’ng of a meal, to six months’ imprisonment. Mr. Stout, S.M., inflicted a fine of £5 on Wm. Bates, grocer, for selling short weight bread, stating the onus was on the vendor. Fred C. Stubbs, who sold milk deficient in fats, was fined £5 and costs. A Native defendant who failed to attend drill was fined £5, and trout poachers were fined £2. HEAVY RAIN IN HAWKE’S BAY. Napier, Jan. 27, Much rain has fallen in Hawke’s Bay this month, the total to date being 6 A inches, a most unusual occurrence for this district. There is steady rain to-day, and the rivers are rising rapidly.
