A MOTOR SMASH.
CaIR AND LORRY COLLIDE. FIVE PERSONS INJURED. ACCIDENT AT MOTUNUI. A collision between a motor car and a motor lorry, involving injuries to five persons, occurred a few chains on the Waitara aide of the Motunui post office about ten o’clock yesterday morning. The motor car was driven by Mr. Roger Greenwood, of Urenui, and the motor lorry, (owned by Mr. C. H. Johnston, of Waitara) was in charge of Mr. Campbell..
All the occupants of the motor car, except Mr Baker, were injured, some seriqusly. They are:— Mr’. Greenwood, broken ribs. ‘ Mra. Greenwood, broken ribs. ’llrs. Croft, broken ribs and broken collar-bone. Miss Greenwood,, a broken collarbone. Master Greenwood, broken ribs. At the scene of the accident .the road is level and it is stated each driver had a clear view of the other approacHirig before the impact took place, and how the drivers failed to avoid a collision is not clear. No one except those concerned in the aiccident saw what happened and the accounts of the motorists vary. But whoever is to blame it is clear that the vehicles collided with a terrific impact, with the result that the occupants of the motor car were thrown in all directions and the car was smashed beyond repair. The driver of the lorry escaped, without injury, but the front of his vehicle was badly damaged. After the injured persons had been placed op the roadside and 1 made as comfortable as possible Dr. Allison, of Waitara, was sent for, and after attending to their injuries they were taken by motor cars to the residence of Mr. Greenwood.
