The inquest has opened concerning the death of the girl Tirtschke, who was found in a city side street murdered and outraged. Ross, who is charged with the crime, was present in custody. After evidence was given that the girl was seen in a wine saloon kept by Roas, Ivy Matthews, formerly manageress for Ross, said prisoner told her: “The moment I am m the presence of children I lose my head. 1 did that to that child and in a few minutes she was dead. I did not tile a cord round her neck. After she was dead I picked up a knife and could have slashed her to bits.” —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
