MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE.
GIRL KILLED BY MOTOR. s By Telegraph?—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The hearing of the charge against Russell Bedford Graham of manslaughter of the 10-year-old girl Madge Cooper was continued at the Police Court today. Witnesses for the prosecution estimated the speed of the motor, one at 20 miles an hour, and another between 25 and 30 miles an hour. A constable gave evidence that the acciised, in a statement, said the brakes were in good order. He slowed down as the tramcar was reached, deceased getting off a few yards in front, when she stopped and stepped back. A witness for the defence stated that be never saw the speedometer register more than 20 miles an hour. From his ojyn experience of motors he considered the taximan’s action the wisest in view of the circumstances. The hearing was adjourned.
