STOWAWAYS. IN COURT.

Palmerston North, Jan. 24.

Two American youths, nan\ed. Jamas Jerome Davis and John Frank Renner, were sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment for being idle and disorderly, and were remanded to Wellington for sentence on three charges of evading payment of fare on a Government railway, failing to register as aliens, and landing in the Dominion without a passport. The accused were arrested here on January 18. They said they stowed away on the West Hislop on November 12 at San Francisco, and were pur ashore at Honolulu. There they stowed away on the Makura, and on arrival at Auckland evaded the police and Customs and got ashore. Later they walked to Otahuhu, then rode on freight trains to Frankton, Te Awamutu, Te Kuiti and Taumarunui, and came on to Palmerston North. Several cases of fruit in the wagon used by accused were not touched.

MISSING LAD FOUND. Gisborne, Jan. 24. Search parties are still out in all directions searching for the missing lad Clare, but excepting for a discovery of footprints indicating that the boy wa4 making straight into the bush no success has rewarded their efforts. The injured dog returned to the hotel on Friday night. The settler who took the lad out on Friday states that they killed a pig and in "the encounter the dog wi. i ripped. The settler made for the hotel, the bnv following with the injured dog. He lost touch with the lad for a few minutes, and returning over his track could find no trace of him. ■Later.

The missing boy Clare was found this morning two miles in the bush. He was well despite his long exposure. His legs were swollen but he soon recovered.
