WORLD’S BUTTER OUTPUT.
IMPORTS INTO BRITAIN. PRODUCTION GENERALLY LARGER. Details of the importations of butter and cheese into the United Kingdom during the ten months ended October 31, 1921, in comparison with the corresponding importations in 1913 have been furnished by the dairy division of the Department oi Agriculture. The figures are as follow:
Commenting on these figures, the director of the division, Mr. W. M. Singleton, drew attention to the fact that the Argentine has made wonderful strides in the output of butter. Australia is also forging ahead with butter production, while New Zealand has made the most satisfactory progress of any country. In 1913, New Zealand sent to England 150,000 tons of butter, while in 1921 her consignments totalled 173,000 tons, an increase of 23,000 tons. Ir has to be borne in min'l, however, that, other countries have increased their production almost correspondingly, and the flooding of the market may have the effect of lowering prices from their present level.
