SWIMMING.
NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. TO-MORROW’S CARNIVAL. A meeting of the committee of the New Plymouth Swimming Club was held last night. Present: Mr. F. J. Eggleton (chairman), Miss Mouatt, Messrs. A. Blennerhassett, R. Bailey, D. Sykes, R. Shearer. O. Coleman and K. Stohr (secretary). It was reported that entries for the carnival to-morrow night are coming in satisfactorily, prospective competitors including South Taranaki swimmers. It was decided to extend the closing time for nominations until six o’clock to-night. The programme includes novelty races, and an exhibition of diving will be given by Messrs. Mathieson and Christiansen. The committee disc j d general arrangements for the gathering, and if weather conditions are favorable the carnival should be a very enjoyable one. An offer of a trophy valued at £3 3s from Mr. V. Dalgleish was received with thanks. The trophy is to be allotted as a points prize for one or more future carnivals. A LADIES’ RECORD. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. At the Wartemata Swimming Club’s sports Miss Pauline Hoeft lowered the New Zealand ladies’ record for 100 yards of 69 seconds, held by Miss G. Shand (Canterbury), by two seconds. Miss Violet Walrond, who was second, swam in 68 3-ssec.
