SMITHFIELD MEAT PRICES. Palmerston. N., Jan. 22. Messrs. M. A. Eliott, Ltd., have received cabled advice from Messrs. Gilbert. Anderson and Co., Ltd., London, of the following Smithfield market prices for New Zealand meat for the week ending January 21: Canterbury lamb: Under 361 b, 10d; 36 to 421 b, lOd; 42 to 501 b, 9d. Best North Island lamb: Best, under 361 b, 94d; ordinary, under 361 b, 94d. Canterbury wethers and maiden ewes: 64 to 721 b, 6 Id. Best North Island wethers and maiden ewes: 56 to 641 b, 6?d; ordinary, 48 to 561 b, 7d; 56 to 641 b, 6Jd. North Island ewes, 48 to 641 b, 5 5-Bd. New Zealand prime beef (equal fores and hinds), 4d.
Lamb shows an advance of Id per lb, wethers :|d, ewes 5-Bd, and beet no alteration. The above prices are on a delivered
INGLEWOOD SALE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The attendance at Newton King, Ltd.’s mart sale on Saturday last was not numerous for reasons similar, no doubt, to those that prevailed on the previous Saturday—stress of work on the farms, combined with financial shortage. Again no pigs were offered. A fair number of poultry were submitted. Hens sold for Is 7d, cockerels Is Id, ducks Is 8d to 2s and ducklings 9d. Fresh ejat cabbages made sd, plums 4s for 241 b case, 2s (id for 181 b; nectarines, 5s 6d; tomatoes, 3s 6d per box. New potatoes sold nt Id per lb, and general sundries made fair market, prices.
