NOTES ON THE RACING. (By Wire —Special to News.) Wellington, Last Night. All the acceptors lined up for the Jumpers’ Flat. Hyttus and Sir Roseberry led in the early stages, and Explorer and Mandrake were at the back. Approaching the straight Kyoto and Royal Gift closed on the leaders, but Explorer was still a long way back. Royal Gift took charge in the straight, and in a good finish beat Sir Roseberry i>y a head. Explorer was half a length away .third and Kyoto was fourth. The winner was ridden by the visiting horseman, H. Cairns. Callaghan, Halifax and Nursing Sister were the best backed in the January Welter, from which the only with-, drawal was Mustard Pot. Nursing Sister took up the running when the field settled down, and Makere went with her. Borealis was at the tail of the field, and Halifax was well back. Nursing Sister dropped Makere at the entrance to the straight i and went on alone. Below the distance Martian Miss was brought along, and she had charge vzell up the straight, when Raceful shut out of the ruck, and cutting the field down in great style, won by half a length. A length separated Martian Miss from Crucelle, who was third. The Speaker was fourth. Killashandra, who had shown a lot of pace on the first day, was well supported in the Nursery Handicap. The Lowry gelding began well and was prominent as they turned on to the course proper, but was running somewhat erratically. In the run up the straight nothing had a chance with him, and he won nicely by a length from Bumptious, with Mountain Lion third, Ares fourth and The Emperor last. Angelo and Wheatfield were the best backed in the Maiden Plate. The start was a good one and Angelo shot right to the front. She was joined after they had gone a furlong by Pain, and the pair carried on the running from Wheatfield, Warpath and Password. Angelo led into the straight, where several threw out a challenge, but the only one to trouble the leader was Wheatfield under punishment, and the pair fought out a hard finish. Angelo beat the Trentham representative by a head. Mark Time, two lengths away, and Pam were the next to finish.

For the Wellington Racing £h’b Handicap Syeorax was fancied, and others well backed were Insurrection, Vespucci and Rude. ‘The field was sent away to a good start. Going through the straight Songbird was in front, with Rude, Vespucci and Syeorax next. Turning out of the straight Songbird had charge from Vespucci and Rude, with Syeorax and Insurrection next, and Silent King at the head of the next lot. Entering the back stretch Songbird still had charge. Syeorax had run into second place, and Rude and Vespucci were next, while Esperance was moving up. Six furlongs from home Askari had moved up behind Songbird, and then came Rude, Syeorax, Insurrection and Vespucci. The field closed up somewhat as the home turn was negotiated and the leading, positions changed several times. Martial Dawn hit the front; then Rude showed up, and .just afterwards X®.. The Trentham pair Scion and Triboulet were selected by the speciilators as the most likely to w’in the Douro Cup, and next in demand was Gamboola. Lord Desmond got away badly, but the rest of the field went away well together. Triboulet was the first to show out, and in behind here vVere Lady Kotiripo, Scion and Gambonla. Five furlongs from home Blissfulness went to the front and he piloted the field to the straight. Below the distance Whipping Boy shot out, and going on strongly he never looked like getting caught. The Riccarton gelding won by four lengths from All Cerise, who was just in front of Vasilkov, -with Helen Rufus close up fourth. After her good race on the opening day Blackmail was fancied for the Metropolitan Handicap, but she did not run nearly as well as on Saturday. Anomaly began best and Quest also was early in the leading division, with Blackmail in behind him. Anomaly was the first on to the course proper, and at the crossing Birkie ran very wide. Anomaly was in charge to the distance, where Pluto ranged alongside, and the pair fought a great finish to the post. Affectation joined in over the last fifty yards, and the trio crossed the line almost together. Pluto won. by a head, and the judge declared that Affectation and Anomaly dead heated. Blackmail was fourth find Mantua next.
