CORRESPONDENCE.
THE SEVENTH DAY ADVENTISTS.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —Sabbath keeping is necessary, during the Christian age. It must, however, be the correct seventh day. The common saying that “any day will do, if we only keep one,” Js simply a delusion, for there is only one day of the Creator’s week given in Genesis 1. that can be kept holy, and that day must be always the last of the seven days, ard never the first. All the days before the Sabbath are called “six working days” (Eze. 40, 1). In Tasman Street, Wellington, there are two churches. One of them observes the day called Saturday according to the “way of the nations,” which are vain, and contrary to the Word of the Lord (Jere. 10, 1-3 R.V. with Deut. IS, 9). The work of the Creator is thus set at nought (Gen. 1, 14-19, Ecc. 3, 14). The other church bears the Scriptural name “The Church of God,” whose adherents keep the so-called Sunday, which is the Sabbath, in perfect accord with the Bible way of counting the Creator’s week. It should J>e easy to know which of these two "churches is keeping the correct Sabbath of the Lord, or the counterfeit. The one that takes the nations’ unauthorised count of days, or the one whose count is according to the Creator’s appointment for the sun to rule the day. “We surely ought to obey God rather than men.” (Acts 5, 29). The fact of teaching and persuading people to rest on the Bible sixth day, for the Creator’s seventh day, is the greatest religious, scientific and social blunder of the centuries, and has for its origin Babylon. Time must be later westward, as long as the sun sets in the west. The unnatural, unscientific way of counting time as coming eastward has caused all the confusion that exists on the .Sabbath question. A lady who had rested on the Saturday of the almanac for 34 years, said her husband b'd lost a good position in the Union] Co. She was told that if he had been properly taught, and obeyed the Bible! Sabbath truth, such a loss would not , have occurred. Who, then, are to blame [ for the great deception and loss caused to the family ? Who have been the gainers thereby? My own daughter was decoyed away from. the truth by such *< mistaken teachers, which has caused < very great annoyance and estrangement in the family. A tradesman with a good business began to rest upon the Saturday. To be consistent he sold his business. He soon became acquainted with the Edenic day-line. Then he said: “I will keep both* days, Saturday and Sunday, until. I know which is riffht.” ‘After five months’ investigation, he finally
decided upon the New Zealand Sunday, and has kept it ever since, nearly 20 s"ears. Another tradesman, once in a large business, a Sunday School superintendent, told me that he kept the socalled Saturday until he got to the last sole of his boots. Another, a master baker, tried and failed several times, until he found out his deception. Two S.D.A. ministers, who labored in New Zealand, also gave up the delusion. There are other who could be mentioned as a warning against those who would, if possible, deceive the very elect (Matt. 24/24). Al] those who are sincere will be thankful for the warning (Eze. 33: 7-9). In the days of Elijah it became essential to declare whether Baal Or Jehovah was the true God. In these days it is needful to demonstrate which day is the Sabbath of Jehovah. The fact of calling Saturday Sunday in the Pacific Ocean, Monday will be the first day in the week, and the seventh day will be Sunday. Its observance should commence on the so-called Saturday sunset, until Sunday sunset, and kept in memory of the great work of Creation. The day should be called Sabbath, and not Sunday. —I am, etc., DAVID NIELD. (To the Editor.) Si r> —As a resident of New Plymouth I desire to express my appreciation of the public meetings which have been held during the last fortnight at the Seventh Day Adventists’ camp. The people of New Plymouth have certainly been afforded an opportunity of hearing some very unique and instructive discourses on Scriptural subjects, ’ those dealing with prophecies relating to the nearness of the second coming of Christ being especially helpful. In these days of gross materialism such meetings furnish a valuable opportunity to stir men’s minds to consider the reality of the things that are unseen. Not only was the preaching of God’s Word a feast of good things, but the music by the camp choir, together with the good congregational singing, appealed to all lovers of sacred music. My opinion of Seventh Day Adventists and their work has completely changed, for I have found them to be exponents of all the funda-, mental truths of Christianity. Thanking you for acceding to me the privilege of using your valuable space in order to publicly express my appreciation of the visit of the Adventist Conference to our town.—l am. etc., W. G. ORR.
