MR. McGTRR’S ATTITUDE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Sydney, Jan. 17. Mr. McGirr announced that he will stay in the party so lorig as it is necessary to fight Dooleyism. He is not prepared to go to the electors under Mr. Dooley’is leadership, but will, in the event of the defeat of the postponement of the elections proposal, appeal to the electors as leader of the extremist section of the party. A member of the Australian Labor Party executive states the executive realises that a serious split is likely, and with the object of defeating this will, at the next meeting, consider the advisability of expelling Mr. McGirr. After a protracted debate at the caucus, Mr. McGirr withdrew his motion, and the election date is not altered. EFFORTS TO HEAL RUPTURE. Sydney. Jan. 18. The Press was debarred from the caucus meeting, which was stormy till the close, when calmer counsels prevailed. Efforts were made to heal the Ministerial rupture, and a special resolution imposing secrecy on the members was adopted.
Mr. McGirr reiterated his intention to abandon State for Federal politics.
