LONDON MARKETS. LATEST PRICES FOR PRODUCE. HIGH COMMISSIONER’S ADVICE. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated January 14, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:—- ' MEAT. Mutton and lamb have advanced in price, and market decdedly firmer. Cause not quite clear, but stated to be due to absence of sellers and to fewer forward sales being made from New Zealand. It is stated that holders of stocks are few in number, and that they are desirous of conserving stocks in case formation of pool prejudices their future supplies. No improvement in beef market, principally owing to large supplies chilled. Prices are: —N.Z. mutton, lightweight, Jan. 14, 6%d; Jan. 7, 6£d; Dec. 30, 5 3-Bd, 5-Jd. N.Z. mutton, heavyweight, Jan. 14, 5Jd, s|d; Jan. 7, oJtd; Dec. 30, 4|d, sd. New Zealand mutton, ewes, best quality, Jan. 14, sd; Jan. 7, 4Jd: Dec. 30, 4£d. N.Z. lamb, lightweight, Jan. 14, 9d; Jan. 7, B%d; Dec. 30, Bd. N.Z. lamb, heavyweight, Jan. 14, 8d; Jan. 7, 7|d; Dec. 30, 7|d. N.Z. beef, ox hinds, Jan. 14, Jan. 7, 4%d. N.Z. beef, ox fores, Jan. 14, Jan. 7, 3Jd. N.Z. chilled hinds, Jan. 14, 6%d; fores, Jan. 14, 3Jd. BUTTER. Demand continues good, position steadier, and at present level. New Zealand in some eases realised up to 135 s per cwt. (Is 2£d per lb.) for special lot. Official quotations are:— New Zealand. —Jan. 14, 128 s to 130 s per cwt. (Is to Is 2d per lb.); Jan. 7,118 s to 126 s per cwt. (Is Ogd to Is per lb.) ; Dec. 30, 120 s to 130 s per cwt. (Is Id to Is 2d per lb.) \ CHEESE. Market remains quiet. Official quotations are: New Zealand.—Colored: Jan. 14, 86s to 88s per cwt. (9%d to 9Ad per lb.); Jan. 7,84 s to 88s per cwt. (9d to 9%d per lb.); Dec. 30, 86s to 92s per cwt. (9%d to 9|d per lb). White: Jan. 14, 84s to 86s per cwt. (9d to 9%d per lb.); Jan. 7,82 s to 86s per cwt. (83d to 9jd per lb.) ; Dec. 30, 86s to 90s per cwt. (9sd to 9?d per lb.). CASEIN. Market firmer. Latest quotations received are: French rennet £74 per ton; Lactic, £65 per ton. HEMP. Manila market remains quiet. Quotations nominally unchanged. N.Z. easier owing to the absence of demand from consumers. Sellers quote highpoints spot £37 10s per ton, JanuaryMarch shipment £36 10s per ton; fair, £35 10s, £35 per ton respectively. WOOL. Sales continue satisfactorily. Offering meets brisk demand, and full opening rates maintained. LONDON WOOL SALES. By Telecraph.—Press Assn —copyright. London, Jan. 17. At the mixed wool sale there was a good selection of merinos, which were briskly competed for. Finest . sorts were in seller’s favour, offers being at full late rates. Crossbreds were unchanged. Yorkshire and the Continent were competing strongly, and Germany was more active than last week.
