WAITARA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Jan. 17. At the annual meeting of the Waitara Freezing Works Employees’ Union, held this week, the following officers were appointed for the ensuing year: President, Mr. T. B. Ewens; vice-presi-dent, Mr. A. Bowen; secretary, Mr. Geo. Bird; executive, Messrs. C. Tanner, W. Sullivan, D. McArthur, J. Fitzsimmons, K. J. Pennington E. Frost, Geo. Stimpson, G. Roberts, F. Hawkings, and F. Boddye. A proposal for a picnic was held over. The Clifton Lodge of Druids held their usual meeting on Monday night, when there was only a small attendance. Various suggestions were made, which will come before the quarterly meeting to be held in February. It was reported that Bro. P. Feek has made satisfactory recovery from his illness, and is out of hospital. Bro. W. Sampson, who had to cease work in December on account of illness, rs still under the doctor’s care, and the hope was expressed that he will soon be fully restored to health. Mrs. E. J. Wiseman, our popular pianist, has been laid aside for three weeks, suffering a breakdown, but was able to leave for Dunedin on, Monday morning on a health-recruiting trip.

The sale of work in aid of the Waitara Convent funds opens on Thursday afternoon next in the Clifton Hall, and will be continued on Friday and Saturday afternoons and evenings.
