SOUTH AFRICAN ATHLETES.
VISIT TO NEW PLYMOUTH. FIXED FOR FEBRUARY 10. After several communications with reference to the visit to New Plymouth of the South African athletes, arrangements have now been completed between the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association and the New Plymouth Centre in connection with the visit. Previously it was fixed for Wednesday, February 8, but as the 10th was considered by the local association to be a far more suitable day, arrangements have been made that provided the South Af-
ricans can be motored to Wanganui afiter the meeting the head centre in Wei’lington will consent to the South Africans performing here on Friday, leuruary 10.
These arrangements have now been completed, so that Taranaki people will have an opportunity of witnessing these distinguished athletes in action here on the Friday between the two days’ racing o-f the Taranaki Jockey Club’s meeting. As some of the South Africans have already showed a glimpse of their form, by one of its members running a quarter-mile in 50 2-ssec., equalling the present New Zealand record, some startling performances should be recorded before the tour is completed.
Local athletes should waste no time in preparing for the coming events, when apart from their performances many points may be gained from a. visit of such notable athletes. The meeting will be held on the High School ground, and it is hoped a revival in this branch of athletics will result.
