THE PUBLIC HEALTH.

ISOLATION RULES DISREGARDED. SUPERINTENDENT’S COMMENT. The disregard of some persons for the regulations made in the interests of public health was the subject of a letter read at yesterday’s meeting of the Taranaki Hospital Board. The communication, which came from the superintendent (Dr. E. A. Walker), stated:“I beg to draw your attention to the state of affairs existing at the isolation block. Owing to the free access obtainable to this building, the public, disregarding all warnings from the staff, visit their friends daily. This has been a menace to the public health, and something must be done to put, a atop to it. I suggest that a wire-netting fence six feet in height be erected, with an inner fence six feet from the outer fence surrounding the building, so as to shut off all accessible parts.” On the suggestion of the chairman (Mr. M. Fraser), it was decided to leave the question to the house committee. Personally he did not think the erection of fences" would achieve the desired result, but thought that if the board could pass a by-law empowering them to punish anybody who infringed the rule it would be more effective. •In reply to ono of the board members, the secretary (Mr. E. Holden) said there were notices on the building asking people to make enquiries from the main building, but this was evidently disregarded.
