The examiners were Mr. B. Knox, of Christchurch, a member of the New Zealand executive, who is at present making a tour of various centres, and Mr. P. Mathieson. There was one candidate for the award of merit test, I. McHardy, and he gained a pass after giving a very creditable display. Afiss Olga Penman gained the proficiency and elementary certificate, and Miss Afyrtle Mather was successful in gaining the bronze medallion. During Mr. Knox’s visit Messrs. N. Christiansen and P. Mathieson passed the surf test. At a gathering of instructors last night Air. Knox thanked the Taranaki Centre for their kindness in showing him round the district, and also paAl a tribute to the standard of the work he had seen. The meeting was responsible for a general discussion on swimming matters, and a number of points were elucidated by Mr. Knox’s remarks, including the question of a uniform standard of examination.

Yesterday afternoon Air. Knox was present at a reel demonstration by members of the Old Boys’ Club. The team, who gave a creditable exhibition of rescue work, was as follows: Blennerhassett, Sykes, Alorrison, Howell, Boon, Johnson, and W T . Brown.
