BAND CONTEST.
NEXT YEAR’S FUNCTION. WANTED BY NEW PLYMOUTH. An effort is being made by New Plymouth citizens interested in band affairs to have the 1923 contest held in N«r Plymouth, and with this object in view a canvass of the town is being made to secure guarantors for the expense® of the contest. At the last annual meeting of the North Island Bands’ Association New Plymouth’s selection was defeated by one vote, but enthusiast hope to see* the town secure the contest in 1923. Already a.bout £lOOO has been guaranteed in sums of £5 and £lO. The matter was discussed at a meeting of the Band Committee held last night, and it was decided to hold a public meeting in order to secure the backing of citizens to strengthen the hands of the delegates to the association meeting next month, when the question will be decided. The progress made to <late by the canvassers, Messrs. H. S. Brookman and E. J. Sole, was considered very satisfactory. The following are the names of those who have already signed the guarantee: T.
