SOUTH AFRICAN LABOR.
THE CONFERENCE UNFINISHED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Capetown, Jan. 16. The conference between the strikers and the employers lasted all day. An excellent tone prevailed throughout, but the proceedings were adjourned without reaching an agreement. Despite the efforts of the extremists the underground officials’ opinion agreed unanimously to maintain the essential services. ' A small faction fight occurred between natives in one compound, but was promptly checked, otherwise there was no trouble. The Benoni district is almost the only one affected by the withdrawal of the essential services, being without light.
