The totalisator handled £8792, compared with £15,756 last year, a decrease of £6962. Results: — RAUWA HANDICAP.—Pitch (R. Recd) 1, Hauranga 2, Caplin 3. Also started: Miss Roseland, Mokattam, Merry Bell. Won by a length, a length between second and third. Time, Imin. 15 4-ssee. TRIAL HANDICAP.—Waintohu (R. Reed) 1, Westerner 2, Lady Muriel 3. Also started: Manus, Sabrinellia. Won by a nose, half a length between second and third. Time, Imin. 29 4-ssec. WAIROA CUP.—Martini (H. Oliver) 1, Orawia 2, Cleft 3. Also started: Black Lace, Lake Robin. Won by a long neck, three-quarters of a length between second and third. Time, 2min. Msec. MAIDEN SCURRY.—CiviI form (C. W. France) 1, Lady Thurnham 2, Man Gakino 3. Also started: Sabrinella, Taringaroa, Masekira, Mountain Gun, Whareti, Patua. Won by four lengths, half a length between second and third. Time, Imin. 2 2-ssec.
STEWARDS’ HANDlCAP.—Asterina (H. Griffith) 1, Bunny 2, Black Lace 3. Also started: Fantabile. Won by a length, two lengths between second and third. Time, Imin. Msec.
TELEPHONE HACK.—Haurangi (C. W. France) 1, Pohehe 2, Miss Roseland 3. Also started: Slave Mart, Pitch, Eozic. Won by two lengths, a length and a half between second and third. Time. Imin. 15sec.
WELTER HACK.—Hyrax (A. Tricklebank) 1, Waikohu 2, Joyride 3. Also started: Waiwata, Colonel Arch. Lake Robin, Hobo. Won by two lengths, half a length between second and third. Time, Imin. 33sec.
HURUMUA WELTER. Earthshine (N. Reed) 1, Queens Up and Lord Muskerry dead heat 2. Also started: Tout Bon, Patetonga, Multifual, Rylstone. Won by a short head. Time, Imin. 39 1-5 sec.
WELLINGTON TRAINING NOTES. Wellington, Jan. 17. Fine weather conditions prevailed at Trentham this morning for track work. The outside of the course proper was open. Insurrection and Winning Hit covered a mile in Imin. 43sec. Doucement sprinted four furlongs in 50see. Egotism and Vespucci did a mile in Imin. 44sec.; Dainty Step and Halifax also covered a mile in Imin. 43sec. Makere and Whipping Boy aid six furlongs in Imin. 15 2-ssec. Moutoa’s Gift sprinted four furlongs in 52sec. Lord Desmond and Jackaroo covered six furlongs in Imin. 16 3-ssec., and Astinome and Reset in Imin. 16sec. Kilrush and La Paloma did the mile in Imin. 43 4-ssec. Sunny Corner, Ares and Rugby did five furlongs in Imin. ssec on the tan. Gloaming sprinted half a mile in 49sec., whilst Capping Day covered the same distance in 51 2-ssec.
Purple Spur ran seven furlongs in Imin. 33sec., and Esperance covered a mile.
Opiate did seven furlongs in Imin. 32sec., and Solfanello and Blackmail six furlongs in Imin. 17sec.
Lady Violet, Triboulet and Vindictive covered six furlongs in Imin. 17 3-ssec.
Callaghan ran nine furlongs in 2min. 3see.
Martial Dawn did six* furlongs In Imin. 16 3-ssec, and Mountain Peer sprinted four furlongs in 49sec. Scion covered six furlongs in Imin. 16sec., whilst Quest and Wheatfield did eeven furlongs in Imin. 33sec., and Backsheesh and Bonnie Muse four furlongs in 49 4-ssec. Deucalion and Ruatara did five furlongs on grass in Imin. 4 l-ssec.
T.J.C. NOMINATIONS. Owners and trainers are reminded that nominations for all events (except the Eighth Taranaki Stakes) at the autumn meeting of the Taranaki Jockey Club close with the secretary (Mr. E. P. Webster) on Friday evening at nine o'clock. TARANAKI JOCKEY CLUB. DISTRICT COMMITTEE MEETING. A meeting of the Taranaki Jockey Club District Committee was held last night. Present: Messrs. L. A. Nolan (chairman), D. J. Malone. O. W. Sole, J. Gray, A. Good, A. Alexander, G. Fraser, J. McLeod, H. Washer, B. H. Chaney and S. Pitt. Permission was granted to the Waimate Plains Trotting Club to use the Egmont Club’s course for a race meeting on Easter Monday. The suspension of M. Conway in connection with his riding in the Stratford Cup was confirmed. The programme of the Uruti Beach Picnic Club for their meeting on March 11 was approved subject to modifications.
Jockeys’ licenses were granted to T. Healey, J. P. Hunt, and conditional three months’ licenses to W. Ayres and W. C. Lloyd.
