“WHITE AUSTRALIA.”
DETERMINED LABOR ADVOCACY. By Tele, rraDh. —Press Assn —Copyright. Adelaide, Jan. IG. The executive of the Australian Labor Party has issued a statement strongly condemning the advocacy by the Premier and others of the introduction of colored labor into the Northern Territory. It has decided to fight the movement. SIR JOSEPH COOK’S VIEWS. London, Jan. 15. Sir Joseph Cook, interviewed, deprecated the re-opening of the White Australia controversy. It would be perfect folly and a pure waste of time. Australia had made up her mind irrevocably and beyond all -further argument. It was unnecessary to raise the question in any discussion about the development of Northern Australia. “*We arc doing quite well with white labor,” ho said, “and shall continue to do so. I deeply implore the resurrection of these black labor ghosts which were laid to rest by the first Federal Parliament. Any re-discussion will now be mischevoiis in the extreme. We mean to keep Australia for white people, preferably British.”
Sir Joseph Cook added that the Times editorial, stating that any advocacy of black labor would command neither sympathy nor support among Australians expressed the situation exactly.—Times Service.
