A RECORD IN OPERATIONS. ] BIG NUMBER OF ADMISSIONS. During 1921 there were 1179 patients J admitted to the New Plymouth public hospital. The number of operations performed was 641, a record for the institution, and of these there were 335 recoveries, and 8 deaths. The previous heaviest year in regard to operations was 1918, when the number was 608. The isolation block was open all the, year, and there was a greater proportion of infectious diseases than in the previous year, particularly scarlet fever, the patients being both children and adults. The number of casualty admis sions was about on a par with previoui years, the proportion of serious casei being small. The latter pare of th« year was a fairly busy one for the hospital staff, with, a fairly high daily / average, there being some months when the number of inmates was over 100 per day.
