FATAL ACCIDENT.

, January 14. As the result of a fall whilst woi-Jng at the Stratford dairy factory last night a young married, man named Albert Edward Norman lost his life.

Norman, who was employed as an en-gine-driver at the factory, was engaged at about 10 o’clock last night in effecting repairs to the shafting in the engine-room and he slipped and fell from a height of about 10 feet to the concrete floor, sustaining concussion.

Dr. Sowerby was summoned and ordered Norman's removal to the hospital, where he died at about 4 o’clock this morning.

Deceased was a married man without a family and a stranger to the district, having only joined the factory staff at the beginning of the season.

A coronial inquiry was held this afteroon, Mr. C. D. Sole, J.P., presiding, and after hearing the evidence the jury found that death was accidental, no blame being attachable to anyone.

As the result of a heavy pole slipping whilst he was lifting it a borough electrical department employee named J. Butcher had the third finger of his left hand crushed, part of it having to be amputated.

After twelve months’ excellent service in Stratford. Captain and Mrs. Montgomery, of the Salvation Array, leave next week for Wellington. Captain Montgomery’s pleasant manner has earned him many friends here and with the able assistance of Mrs. Montgomery' he has greatly advanced the work of the Salvation in this district. A public farewell gathering will be held at the Army hall x on Monday night. Ensign and Mrs. Hawkes, who will take over the leadership of the local corps, will be welcomed here on Thursday evening,
