The death is announced of Dr. H. L. Tresidder, a well-known practitioner, of Onehunga, Auckland.
Mr. J. W. Harding, of Awatuna, who has been, appointed clerk of the Hawera County Council, has taken up his duties. A cable from Washington says Sir John Salmond, the New Zealand delegate at the Conference, has returned from New York, where he addressed the Bar Association and the Harvard Law School.
Mr. John Brennan, who died at Puniho on the 10th inst., aged 80 years, at one time was well known in Opunake as mine host of Middleton’s Hotel.
Many residents of Hawera will learn with sincere regret of the death at the age of 79 years, of Mr. T. G. L. Nicholas at Levin on Friday’ (says the Star). Mr. Nicholas was a pioneer settler, having come to New Zealand with his parents about 70 years ago. They settled in Wellington, and lived there until he was grown up. Later he and his wife went to the Wairarapa, where they farmed until 1874, when, with their family, they came to Hawera. They lived there until eight years ago, when they went to Levin. During their long residence in this district they were devoted workers in the cause of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, and by their kindly disposition and their ever-readiness to help anyone in need made themselves beloved by a large circle of friends. Mrs. Nicholas predeceased her husband about two and a half years ago. They are survived by eight sons and five daughters, who are settled in South Taranaki, Auckland, Waikato, and Levin.
