CRICKET.

NORTH TARANAKI COMPETITIONS. PLAY ON SATURDAY. The second round of the competitions in North Taranaki was opened on Saturday. In the A grade matches New Plymouth and Western Park registered w’ins against Inglew’ood and Old Boys respectively. In the B grade the B.H.T. eleven (Bell Block, Hillsborough, and Tarurutangi) marked their entry into the competition by defeating New Plymouth, Harbor Works beat High School 11., and Old Boys gained the decision over Western Park. A GRADE. NEW PLYMOUTH v. INGLEWOOD. New Plymouth had a substantial win over Inglewood in a match played on the racecourse. Batting first they secured 200 runs, of which Ferry had contributed 69 when he retired, and Newbold compiled 42. Darlow secured four wickets for 45 runs, and Starkey two for 30. Inglewood batsmen made no stand against the bowling of Clarke and Nicoll, being all out for 18 runs. Following on Inglewood had eight wickets down for 19 runs when stumps were drawn. Total (for 8 wickets) 19 Bowling analysis —Clarke took five wickets for 3 runs, Nicol! two for 10. WESTERN PARK v. OLD BOYS. The match between Old Boys and Western Park was played at the park, and resulted in a win for the Park team by 36 runs. Western Park batted first and compiled 106 runs, in which R. B. Macdonald, 50 not out, played a very useful innings. F. H. Robertson, with 27, was the only other scorer to reach double figures. Colson, who took four wickets for 24 runs, and Osborne, who got a similar number for 29 runs, were the most successful bowlers for Old Boys. Old Boys’ innings realised 70 (Bottrill 27, and Eggleton not out 13). Four of the wickets fell to R. B. Macdonald for 17 runs. Details of the scores are: WESTERN PARK.

Bowling analysis —Halley took one wicket for 7 runs, Dinniss three for 29. Macdonald four for 17, Elliott one for 16.

B GRADE.

NEW PLYMOUTH v. B.H.T. At Bell Block the New Plymouth B team met the district eleven from Bell Block, Hillsborough, and Tarurutangi. and suffered defeat by one run. New Plymouth, batting first, made 22, to which B.H.T. replied with 25. In their second strike Ndw Plymouth netted 30 and their opponents 28, making the grand totals of 53—52 in favour of B.H.T. For the combined team Bishop secured seven of the opposition wickets for 9 runs in the first innings and seven for 14 in the second. Bowling for New Plymouth H. Harbor Works opened and made 76 (Fitzpatrick 54 and Henderson 13). School compiled 24, none of the batsmen making a stand against the bowling of T. Carey and Cameron. OLD BOYS v. WESTERN PARK. Old Boys met Western Park on the racecourse and won by four wickets. Batting first Western Park made 87 runs (Hoffmann 17, Rowe lv, Harrison 14. Bullot 13). Old Boys replied with 53 runs (Crapper 18, Coleman 11, Burton 10). With a lead of .34 runs Western Park declared their second innings closed with seven wickets down for 45 runs (Rowe 14 not out, Berg 10). Requiring 80 runs in an hour, Old Boys secured the required score with six wickets down, and thus secured a threepoint win. Crapper 3d and Burton 31 were the best scorers. Bowling for Old Boys, Coleman took seven wickets for 28 runs, Crapper three -for 37, McLaughlin one for 24, Doile one for 1.3, Mackie two for 2, Hawkins two for 7. Western Park bowling analysis: Bullot six for 32, Rowe four for 18, Harrison four for 51, Loveridge one for 20.

POSSIBILITY OF A TOUR. Advice has been received in New Plymouth cricket circles that there is a possibility of an Australian team visiting Taranaki this season.

Paddon has received a cable from Mr. Seifert, offering to arrange a match with Hadfield for the championship of the world. The cable states that 'Uadficld is averse to rowing on the Parramatta. The contest will probably take place in New Zealand.
