ALLEGED FALSE PRETENCES. By Telegraph.—Press Association Christchurch, Last Night. In the Magistrate’s Court to-day. Harvey Roland Birch Miles was committed for trial on a charge of obtaining £27 Ils by means of false pretences. Accused became acquainted with a widow in Lyttelton and promised to marry her. He told her he wanted to go home to England to obtain money left him, and complainant advanced the sum mentioned. Subsequently sne found that he was a married man and took proceedings. Complainant had had a child by accused. and in addition to being committed for trial a maintenance order for 12/6 a week was issued against him.
