SOLDIERS’ AND CIVILIANS' CLUB. (From Our Own Correspondent.) T , . . Jan. 13. is just about twelve months ago a^>ove c^u h became an established fact after a hard battle to raise the necessary capital. To those who became members it has proved itself an institution where social intercourse and pleasant evenings can be spent. The committee who have had the management of the club met on Monday last and decided on several important suggestions which will be brought before the annual meeting in February. In the interim arrangements are being made whereby the club will be open in the daytime, and the smoke room is to be thrown open for committee meetings for any society requiring such accommodation. It was also decided to reduce the price of billiards in view of a championship billiard tournament which is to be held at a later date, a valuable trophy having been received. Special thanks was accorded to the Rev. Mr. Gavin for his able occupancy of the chair during the president’s absence in England, also to- Mr. Westerman (who is leaving for England) for the ever ready assistance he had always given. MOTOR MISHAP. > A narrow escape from injury by the overturning of a motor car driven by Mrs. J. Cole (Motunui), who was accompanied by a friend and three children, occurred near the Waitara cemetery on Tuesday last. The accident happened in going too far off the metal when passing another • car and getting on low ground. The car lost equilibrium and turned over on rts side.
