HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
REPLIES TO QUESTIONS. M The House of Representatives met at 2.30 p.m. Replying to Dr. H. T. Thacker (Christchurch East), the Hon. D. H. Guthrie said enquiry had been made into the recent derailing of a carriage at the Lyttelton wharf, but so far the cause of the derailment was unexplained and not ascertain able. The same carriage had since been repeatedly run over the same piece of line at various speeds without mishap. __ Replying to Mr. S. G. Smith (Taranaki), Mr. Massey said he regretted he could not increase the maximum amount the Advances Office could make to returned soldiers, but when things got hack to normal he hoped to make the benefits of the Advances Office accessible to ex-soldiers. Replying to Mr. W. E. Parry (Auckland Central), th* Hon. W. D. Stewart said he would look into the proposed Bill to regulate the quality of coa£ ga« and if it could be introduced this session he would do so. If not he would endeavor to do so next session if it was at all possible. Replying to Mr. P. Fraser (Wellington Central), Mr. Massey said the Harbors Bill was coming before the House this session, and he understood it contained a proposal enabling Harbor Boards io establish restaurants for the benefit of the workers on the water-front. The debate on the Estimates occupied the remainder of the sitting, and the House rose at 1.12 a.m. until 7.30 p.m. on Monday.
