CROP OF THEFTS.
PRISONER PLEADS GUILTY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Jan. 12. Charles Campbell Dawkins, aged 25, a native of Australia, appeared in the Magistrate’s Court in answer to ten charges of breaking and entering and theft. The total value of the articles stolen amounts to £269 2s 3d. Counsel -for accused agreed to the cases being all taken together, and said that accused intended to plead guilty on all charges, but wished, to be committed for sentence to Wellington. Accused was of respectable character. He had gone to the war when 118, and considerable evidence would be brought to show that there was some connection between his war service and his sudden lapse into crime. With regard to the money found in accused’s possession, the Magistrate decided to leave, it to the Supreme Court to allocate. He ordered that the identified stolen property be returned to the owners.
Accused was committed to the Supreme Court at Wellington for sentence.
