BUTTER SURPLUS.
FEDERAL GOVERNMENT’S ACTION. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Melbourne, Jan. 12. The Federal Cabinet considered the question of surplus butter stocks in England. Mr. Hughes considered the suggestion to give financial backing to the purchase by Australian dairymen of the surplus Australian butter in the Imperial pool. He pointed out that this decision fundamentally differed from the original request that the Government accept responsibility for the purchase and disposal of the butter. The butter conference will meet today to consider the proposal and a scheme for carrying it out.
