HEAVY RAINFALL.

IN THE ELTHAM DISTRICt. ROADS BLOCKED. A very heavy rainfall was experienced M the Rawhitiroa, Pukengahu, Mangamn* and Omoana districts on Wednesday ports the Argus). At the last menlaawd place the fall was so severe that it a< believed that it was due to a cloud-bus*. Roads were flooded and several small alipa are reported. Rumors state that the roads on ths other side of the Patea River are completely blocked, while vague stories h«v« been received of extensive damage over s widespread area, but there is do confirmation of these reports. The road as far as Mangamingi ia fit fol traffic, but beyond that is impassable, even for a hone. The Omoana mail carrier (Mr. Robnison) went in to Omoantf on Wednesday, and is held up by the condition of the road.

The wires beyond Omoana are all down* and the roads completely blocked, the whole of the Moeroa district being completely isolated. Large numbers of stock have been lost in the heavy flood, and many settlers will be very hard hit. Tbn roads are covered by a succession of slipt and in places the roads themselves have slipped away. No actual details of the damage of 100 sustained are available, but it ia known to be extensive throughout the district. The weather is definitely stated to be the worst experienced since the Patea river bridge was washed away about three and a-half years ago.
