Mr. R. H. Bartley, New Plymouth Borough electrical engineer, is on a visit to Christchurch, and will return at the latter end of next week.

A message from Nelson reports the death of Mr. Frank Greenslade, a leading citizen and until recently a tannery proprietor. He was 71 years of age. London cablegram states that Lord Inchcape has been elected chairman of the London committee of the Suez Canal Company in succession to the late Sir Thomas Sutherland.

Mr. R. Brewer, late manager of the Patea Freezing Works, has taken up the position of secretary at the South Otago Freezing Company, vice Mr. E. Moore, resigned.

Mr. E. Marfell returned to Stratford last night from Wellington, where he represented the Stratford district producers at the conference regarding the meat pool scheme.

Mr. R. D. B. Robinson, town clerk of Bisborne, who is at present on a holiday visit to Wellington, has a record which is probably unique in the Dominion. He entered the service of the corporation at Gisborne in 1888 as junior clerk, and three years later was appointed town clerk at the age of 20 years, a position which he has retained with credit to himself and the borough right up to the present time. Mr. Robinson is accompanied by Mrs. Robinson. Mr. John Blundell, senior member of the firm of Blundell Brothers, Ltd., proprietors of the Wellington Evening Post, whose death occurred on Wednesday, and who was in his 81st year, had been in indifferent health for a considerable time prior to his death. The deceased gentleman was born at. Dublin in 1841, and came to New Zealand with his parents and brothers over sixty years ago. He resided with his parents at Dunedin and Havelock prior to settling in Wellington, where his father (the late Mr. H. Blundell, senr.) founded the Evening Post in 1865. The late Mr. John Blundell, who was trained for a journalistic career, took a live interest in the journal with which he was connected, and on the death of his father in 1879, in conjunction with his brothers, the late Mr. Henry Blundell and Mr. Louis Blundell, he was instrumental in placing ihe journal among the leading ones of New Zealand.
