THE LATEST RETURNS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Jan. 9. Lloyd’s Register states that the shipbuilding returns shew that merchant vessels under construction in the United Kingdom at December 31 comprised 351, aggregating 2,640,319 tons, a decrease of 643,000 compared with September, but the present total includes 722,000 tons on which work has been suspended. The number of launchings last quarter showed an increase of 159,000 tons compared with the previous quarter’s tonnage. Building abroad totals 1,816,774 tons, including about 400,000 on which work has been suspended.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
