A lengthy and lively meeting of the executive of the Australian Labor Party turned down the Government proposal that the selection of candidates at the coming elections should be left in the hands of the Government, and decided that electoral councils conduct their own selection ballots. This is regarded as a knock to the Government, which urged the need of immediate preparedness in view of the nearness of the elections, and therefore favored leaving the selections in the hands of the executive.
