BOXING.
THE BIG MATCH. CARPENTIER v. COOK. By Telecrapb.—Frew Assn.—Copyright. Received Jan. R, 5.5 p.m. London. Jan. 7. Interest in the Carpentier-Cook match is very keen as the date approaches. There are many visitors to the respective training camps, critically watching the methods. Though Carpentier is favorite it is confidently believed Cook will make a splendid fight. Sporting Life thinks Cook has a very fine chance, being the type of boxer who fights back all the harder each time he is hurt. The paper adds: “We can imagine him taking a good many of Carpentier’s best punches and coming back for more. The film of Dempsey’s fight showed Carpentier s defence none too good against a man who is a master of in-fighting. If Cook can only stop with "him long enough to land some hurtful body punches he will have a reasonable chance of victory.”—•„ Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
