The first monkey-gland “rejuvenation” operation in New York has been successfully performed on Mr. Irving R. Baker, author and lawyer, aged 58, says a special New York An 18 months old Brazilian ring-tailed nionkey, weighing 9|lb and bred especially for the purpose, was used for the operation, which was performed by Dr. Thomas W. Edgar, assisted by four other surgeons. The operation occupied only twelve minutes from start to finish. Novocain, a local anaesthetic, was used at Mr. Bacon’s own request. The patient laughed and chtted throughout the operation, which took place at the Majestic Hotel. The monkey was rendered unconscious during the operation by the administration of eight ounces of ether. Mr. Bacor-, who is married and the father of five children, is a writer on scientific subjects He had been suffering from failing mental and physical powers, including memory, which made it increasingly difficult xor him to earn livelihood.
