THE PLUNKET SHIELD. WELLINGTON v. OTAGO. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A Plunket Shield cricket match, Wellington v. Otago, was commenced to-day. Otago’s first innings produced 209 (Shepperd 61, Carlton 28, Torrance 20, McMillan 17). McGirr took four wickets for 80 runs, Barclay six for 65. Wellington have lost five wickets for 209 (Hiddleston 118, Dempster 38). Carlton took two wickets for 44 and Shepperd one for 10. AUCKLAND v. CANTERBURY. Auckland, Last Night. A match Auckland v. Canterbury was commenced to-day. Canterbury had scored 210 for six wickets when stumps were drawn (Blunt 57, Grant not out 51, Sandman not out 43). RA'NGITLKEI v. NOMADS. Marton, Last Night. Rangitikei, in their first innings against" the/Nomads, made 84. The Nomads have six wickets down for 203 (D. E. Collins 98, Arkwright 2, A. R. Curtis 5, Talbot 22, Orton 14, K. Cave, not out 17, Bernau 45). ENGLISH TEAM’S VISIT. A REQUEST FROM AUSTRALIA. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Jan. 6, 7.20 p.m. Melbourne, Jan. 6. The Board of Control has decided to ask the Marylebone Club to agree to a visit of an English team to Australia during the 1923-24 season. It was also decided that in future both umpires in inter-State matches be selected by the authorities of the State where the match is being played. A practice match will be .played on the racecourse this afternoon, commencing at 2 o’clock. All enthusiasts are requested to attend.
