WAITARA.

The Waitara Seaside and Surf-bathing Society held their annual picnic on Monday last, and it was patronised by a large number of people. The day was, however, spoilt by a downpour of rain about 2 p.m., which drove everybody home. The takings were about £35.
The Hawera Bowling Club sent five rinks to Waitara on Monday, and played a friendly game. Waitara won both the morning ande afternoon matches. Mr. Foy, on behalf of the visitors, expressed thanks for the hospitable manner in which they had been entertained. The death occurred on Sunday last of Mr. J. Main, who was employed at Messrs. T. Borthwick and Sons’ works in the fitting shop. The deceased served his apprenticeship in Scotland, and came out to Wellington about 11 years ago. For the past five years he bad resided in Waitara, where he made many friends. He developed an illness about three weeks ago, which proved to be heart disease of a serious nature. M’. Main was an enthusiastic member of the Waitara Bowling Club. He leaves a widow and two children.
