A fire occurred at Horsley and Son's timber yards, covering eight acres, in Hartlepool. It extended to the residential area, and many houses were destroyed. The fire is still burning. Received Jan. 5, 10.35 p.m. London, Jan. ft. A gale is assisting to spread the Hartlepool fire. Five hundred people are homeless. Trains are conveying fire brigades from neighbouring towns.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
Hartlepool is a Well-known bathing resort in England. It a population of over twenty thousand.
