LOSS BY FIRE.

DAMAGE IN NEW PLYMOUTH. PAST YEAR’S RECORD. According to the records of the centra] fire brigade, New Plymouth experienced over twice as many fires last year compared with 1920. The latter period, however, was an exceptional one for freeneas from fires, there being only seven outbreaks. The number for the year just ended was nineteen, and the value of the premises involved was £25,000, though the actual damage incurred amounted to £9164. There was a number of small fires, as in nine instances the damage was only £6O or under. In four cases the loss was over £lOOO, one running into £3BOO. Thg figures for the periods are:— < No. fires.
