A TRAGEDY OF LOVE.
BOY AND GIRL VICTIMS. London, Dec. 21. A lovely girl and a brooding boy were the actors in a love tragedy at Highgate on Friday night, which, it has now been discovered, was in some degree due to social difference and parental opposition. Frederick Swain, aged 18, a gardener’s son and Mabel Moore, aged 16, a beautiful brunette with rippling hair and a merry face, the daughter of a fencingmaster, met as classmates at ah evening school, and became sweethearts. They spent the evening together and entered Swain’s home al ver 11 p.m., when all the others, were in bed.
The father subsequently discovered his boy dead and the girl dying. She had been stabbed with a dagger, and was lying on the floor. Passionate letters from the girl were found.
Murder and suicide was the verdict returned against Swain at the coroner’s inquest. The girl’s father gave evidence that he had forbidden the boy to walk with his daughter, because she was too young.
The coroner said the girl’s letters were simply wonderful for one so young.
