DISTRICT NEWS.
WJIAREROA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A merry gathering of local Sunday School children met at the Whareroa Hall to celebrate the festive season with a tea and general distribution of prizes. The scholars sat down to bountifully laden and prettily decorated tables, presided over by their teachers, and did full justice to the good things provided. In the absence of the vicar, Mrs. Benton presented the prizes, each child receiving a book for his year’s work. A good number also received attendance certificates, several having gained almost the full number of possible attendances. Miss Mavis Death, who made a very natural-looking Father Christmas, distributed a varied assortment of toys from a large Christmas tree to all the children. Mrs. W. Nicholas, the superintendent, and the different teachers are to be congratulated on the good work accomplished during the year. After indulging in a few games the children went home, laden with prizes and gifts, and thoroughly pleased with their evening party. Hay-making has been in full swing for some time, with excellent yields of fodder.
