ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.

PRISONER CUTS HIS THROAT. By Telegraph.— Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. A middle-aged man named John Carmody was admitted to hospital to-day with his throat cut, and was at once taken to ‘ the operating room to have his wounds stitched up. The case is one of attempted suicide. Carmody appeared before the court this morning on a charge of vagrancy, having been found by night on the premises of St. Helen’s "Hospital, where he had greatly frightened some of the inmates, and he was sentenced to fourteen days’ imprisonment. He was seemingly a half-crazed individual, evidently suffering from the effects of drink, and soon after being sentenced he seized an opportunity to creep out of the prisoner’s room and make a dash for the Courthouse door. He was promptly secured and returned to the room.

An unhappy sequel occurred soon after the prisoner’s arrival at the Mt. Eden gaol, where he apparently got possession of a broken bottle and attempted to end his life by cutting his throat. It is understood the injuries are of a verv dangerous nature.
