THE MONEY MARKET.
DEMAND FOR FUNDS. The New Zealand Trade Review, in its last issue, discusses the money market in an interesting manner. Lne last bank returns’ showed advances to be some. 41 millions in excess of deposits, and this will probably be about the position with the banks fill after the end of the year. Imports are still com. parattvely light, October's total being £2 443,7*2, but exports are also light at present, and October showed an adverse trade balance of mere are now the. usual seasonal demands for funds, and it will be a. little time yet .before sufficient realisations come In from the season’s prodinje to make any appreciable improvement in the situation. In view of the reduced quantity of New Zealand meat that will be marketed in London this season, it is antieioated that there should he some improvement in the values, which ironM soon be reflected in the In e stock markets here. The Napier wool sales, the first for this season, show a very -sattsfautorv improvement m values, and it (s to be hoped that is the beginning of a .reuerai recovery in values. The mone. tary situation Is still far from good, mi il Will take time before jnatuCTs righ. themselves. How long this will be depends mainly on the prices our main products command, and it is very difficult to make any estimate of this.
