STRATFORD RACING CLUB. fcECOND DAY’S RACES. ADMIRAL CODRINGTON WINS MALONE MEMORIAL. The Stratford Racing Club’s annual race meeting was brought to a conclusion yesterday, in tine weather, 'i here was a good attendance of ttie public, and an interesting day’s aporc was provided. The course had been rolled, and, considering the heavy rain of the preceding day, together with the heavy day’s racing, was in fair order, being some- • what holding, as the times show. Fields, I with the exception of the two big races, which only drew live starters, were good, and elicited keen speculation, whilst the finishes were interesting, the races being keenly contested. Winners were fairly well concealed, only three 1 first favorites catching the judge's eye first. As on the first day the fields were well despatched by Mr. A. Moore, whilst Mr. Stanford was right up to the moment in the judge’s box. Mr. Curry, the stipendiary steward, again had a busy day. At the conclusion of the first race an enquiry was - held into alleged interference with Rangiata during the race. W. E. Pine and L. A. Pine were cautioned. At the conclusion of the second race an enquiry was held into 0. McCarten’s riding of Sunny J-im. but after hearing the evidence the explana- ; tion was accepted. A rider was also lined £5 for insolence to the clerk of i the scales. An enquiry was held into i crossing at the start Of one of the ' races, but was not finished. The t-otalisator handled £27,903 dur- ; iug the day, as compared with £40,047 for the second day last year, a decrease of £12,144. The total for the meeting was £58,845, as compared with £81,277 a decrease of £22,432. The Malone ‘Memorial was won by the Gisborne owned Admiral Codrington, whose owner (Mr. F. J. Lysnar) was present, and got a good reception. The other open race, the Ngaere Handicap, was won by Income, the New Plymouth trained horse thus securing its second success at the meeting.
The catering and the booth were again well conducted, whilst the programme of music rendered by the 4th Battalion Wellington Regiment Band, under the baton of Conductor R. L, Lowe, was much appreciated. The arrangements for the conduct of the meeting were admirably carried out by the secretary (Mr. Coleman), every detail that makes for success having been attended to. Detailed results; CARDIFF HACK HANDICAP, of 150 sovs.; second 30 sovs. and third 15 sovs. Six furlongs.
