DOMINION NEWS.

SHOOTING FOLLOWS BLOWS. 4 i By Telegraph—Press Association. , Dunedin, Dec. 31. Another shooting affray at Cannibal Bay, near Owaka, resulted in the arrest of lEdmond Trelierne on a charge of shooting at George Wilson with intent to do bodily harm. It is alleged that Wilson went to Treherne’s home, where the couple had a few drinks together. Altercation arose and words led to blows, and Treherne, who is an old man, had the worst of the encounter. He went into his bedroom and took a loaded revolver from a mattress, and is alleged to have fired two shots at Wilson. Both missed, and Wilson ran into another room, Treherne, however, went out at the back, and is alleged to have fired a third shot at Wilson.; Wilson thereupon jumped out of the window and, wrestling with Treherne, took the revolver from him. Treherne was remanded to appear at Dunedin on Saturday next.

THE BAD WEATHER. Wellington, Dec. 31. The weather, which since early spring has been a succession of rain and boisterous winds, with only an occasional bright day denoting summer, is keeping up its waywardness to the end, and, after spoiling the Christmas holidays, it is apparently aiming at treating the New Year similarly. Since last night it has been raining heavily, with every appearance of continuing. The Plunket Shield nu&teh, Wellington v. Canterbury, was to have begun to-day, but there is little change of a start being made. HOUSE LOST BY FIRE. Oamaru, Last Night; A six-roomed house, occupied and owned by Mr. W. Free, was completely destroyed by fire to-night. The brigade was hampered by an entire absence of water, the house being on the high levels and only a small hydrant several hundred yards distant-was available.
