MEW YEAR HONORS.

THE LIST IN BRITAIN. VARIOUS SERVICES RECOGNISED. NEW ZEALANDERS INCLUDED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyrlgtt. Received Jan. 2, 8.10 p.m. London, Jan. 2. The following are included in the New Year honors:—

Mr. Charles Hawtrey, the distinguished London actor and producer, is created a Knight Bachelor. Mrs. W. M. Hughes, wife of the Prime Minister of Australia, is made a Dome Grand Cross of the British Empire for services rendered to Australasia during the war. Knight of St. Michael and St. George. —Mr. Lee (Tasmania). •Companions.—Mr. J. H. Gunson (Mayor of Auckland), Mr. Newland (Adelaide), Dr. Paton (Sydney). Bachelor. —Mr. James Coates, Mr. John Ross (New Zealand), Cussen (Melbourne;, Mr. F. B. Moulder (Adelaide), Mr. William Vicars (Sydney). Four new peers are created. —Sir R. Nevison, Sir James Buchanan (the distiller), Mr. Joseph Watson (a director of the Lancashire-Yorkshire railway), Mr. Francis Willey (chairman of Francis Willey Company, Bradford). Baronets include. —Mr. Hyde (proprietor of the Birmingham Post), Mr. Jarvis (director of the Financial News). . There is a large crop of Knights Bachelor for services rendered by business men and financiers during the war, including Mr. Gerald Du Maurier, the actor, .and Mr. Shannon, the academician.

Companions of the British Empire include. —Mr. Newbolt (the author), Mr. Havelock Wilson.

The Sunday papers are annoyed at being deprived of publication of the New Year honors. It was originally intended to publish them 'to-day, and the official list was sent to the Sunday papers, but as publication in the newspapers must not precede official publication in the London Gazette, which has never been published on a Sunday.
