Orders for papers may also be left with thecn. PONSONBY BOYS’ BAND. December 30. The Ponsonby Boys’ Band, whie’e is touring the North Island, arrived in Stratford yesterday and during t’je afternoon and evening played programmes of excellent music. In the afternoon the band visited the hospital grounds and played a programme of music for the patients. In the evening a bard concert was given at the Town Hal’., and the excellent music provided should have attracted a bigger audience. Mr. R. Masters, M.P., briefly welcomed the band to Stratford and expressed the hope that they would have an enjoyable and successful tour. Vocal solos were rendered by Miss Hammond an-1 Mr. P. Aitken, accompaniments being played by Mrs. J. H. Thompson and Miss Lawn. At the conclusion of the concert Bandmaster Lawn briefly thanked those who had assisted in promoting the concert and the citizens who had billeted the boys out for the night. He touched on the desirability of promoting boys’ bands throughout the country. Although only 31 boys were on tour the band’s full strength was 65. and there were another 20 boys taking lessons and a big list of applicants waiting for admission to the band. The band left Stratford by train this morning for El'htam and later proceeded to Hawera. ACTS OF VANDALISM. Stratford is by no means free of that senseless class of larrikin which must break ’ things ’ up to give vent to its feelings and two cases of wanton vandalism have been reported recently. At the school swimming baths yesterday someone amused himself, in the care taker’s absence, by breaking mirrors and fittings and did damage to the extenr of about ten shillings. The new teehrv cal High School, which has previously suffered at the hands of larrikins, was found this mbrning to have had *w£ additional panes of glass broken since last night. PERSONAL. Mr. W. Meldrum. S.M. for the West Coast of the South Island, was in Strata ford to-day. Mr. B. S. Knox, of New Brighton, one of the leading men in the Royal Life Saving Society in the Dominion, is expected to be in Stratford on Janusrv IS. The Mayor (Mr. J. W. McMilJan) has received a letter from Mr. F. A. At the request of the Minister. for Agriculture (the Hon. W. Nosworthy,the Stratford A. and P. Association has called a meeting of producers to be held in the Parish Hall at 2 p.m. to morrow (Saturday), to discuss the proposed meat pool and to appoint a dele gate to attend the conference in Wellington.
